Supporting greener, healthier and more resilient cities

Home

(Re)Natured Cities is a European project that helps municipalities and communities improve how urban green and blue spaces — such as parks, gardens, rivers and natural areas — are managed and maintained.

The project focuses on making cities:

  • More environmentally sustainable
  • More resilient to climate change
  • More inclusive and community-driven

By combining adult education, practical tools and citizen involvement, (Re)Natured Cities supports cities in moving from traditional maintenance practices to nature-friendly, cost-effective and future-oriented solutions.

Why does this matter?

Urban green and blue spaces play a crucial role in:
Supporting biodiversity 100%
Improving physical and mental well-being 100%
Reducing heat and flood risks 100%
Strengthening social cohesion 100%

However, many cities still rely on outdated maintenance practices that are costly, environmentally harmful, or disconnected from citizens’ needs.

(Re)Natured Cities responds to this challenge by working directly with municipalities, adult learners and local communities to co-create better ways of caring for urban nature.

What we do

Throughout the project, partners across Europe:

  • Analyse real-life management practices in cities
  • Develop practical and accessible learning resources
  • Support municipalities with tailored guidance
  • Involve citizens through education and volunteering
  • Test solutions in real urban green spaces

The result is a set of open, usable tools that cities and communities can apply long after the project ends.
